Wedding Recap: First Glance

V-Day is 4 days away, I thought I'd continue with my wedding recap - being featured the month of February 2014 on the blog.  Right where I left off, after getting ready, it was time for our ....
 FIRST GLANCE

A lot of couples choose whether to do a "first glance" or not.  I always had thought I would be more traditional on my wedding day and wait to see the groom in the chapel, however when I saw the venue I changed my mind.  I am so glad I did!  We knew it would be perfect to have that intimate moment, just us two, in the garden outside the chapel before walking down the aisle.
One of the reasons I was so happy we did a "first glance" was that it was a "ceremony" in itself. Another memory to add to the amazing moments of the day.  It was so sweet and intimate seeing each other for the first time and really did a lot to calm our nerves.
We decided to allow immediate family members and our wedding party to view the first look from a distance. It actually made the event extra special and we ended up getting tons of pictures- from every angle - from them!  It was also nice to include the people most important to us in this moment before we went into a more public setting.  Our wedding was not too large (90-120 people), however, it was nice to have something special, including those people that had invested in our lives and were a part of the wedding in some way.
It is completely up to each couple whether or not a "first look" or "first glance" is right for you.  For us, and for our venue, it was.
We laughed later on about how we were both shaking prior to the moment- out of nervous energy and excitement.  It was nice to calm our nerves before the big event.
A few moments to just us!  :-)
There was something so unique about this moment. We both were feeling the same emotions together. We were one step closer to becoming Mr and Mrs, and adding this extra moment into the day let us have some time to let it soak in and enjoy the moment.

It gave us time step back and rest for a moment.
To admire each other without tons of people watching us.

QUESTIONS:

For all who have been married, Did you do a "first glance/look"?

For all who are planning their wedding, Are you going traditional or doing a "first glance/look"?

Wedding Recap: Groom Prep

It's already another day closer to Valentines Day, so here is another wedding recap ;-) keeping up with the month of romance.

Today I am going to recap the groom's morning before the wedding based off of what Bryan has told me how it went.  "Groom Prep" (All photos were taken by Robert Madrid Photo All Rights Reserved)

The morning of the wedding, Bryan got up like any other morning. He had stayed up late the night before writing a long letter for me to read the next day.  He made breakfast (eggs and toast), put on his tux and drove to the church around 8:30am to meet up with the other groomsmen (who were already wearing their tux's as well).

When Bryan arrived, our photographer laughed and said he should have waited to get ready for the pictures.  This groom was well prepared  ;-)

The groomsmen all were to meet in the fellowship hall.  Before all the other guys arrived, Bryan's brother, the Bestman, presented Bryan with a gift.

Spartan cuff links.  Bryan said he loved them and was happy for the chance to show his Michigan State Spartan pride on such an important day.
Soon, it was time to reenact getting ready for the wedding album ;-)

Then my parents arrived.
My mom was so overwhelmed with happiness, she couldn't stop tearing up. Bryan's good friend Syed showed up next.
And then the mother of the groom.
I love this picture above, so beautiful!  Finally it was time to roll up his pocket handkerchief (just in case he needed it in the ceremony (I am telling you he was PREPARED)
And then head out to the courtyard to see me for the first time.
He was off!  He said his heart started to race with the just the thought of seeing me in a few seconds!

Wedding Recap: Bridal Prep

Beautiful February!  In-line with the romance in the air this time of year,  here's another recap from my wedding day...
Bridal Prep:

I was so jittery the morning of the wedding!  I had hardly slept a wink the night before, due to excitement.  When my alarm went off at 5am, I was more than happy to jump out of bed and begin getting ready!

My bridesmaid Sarah was awake too; she had slept in our guestroom the night before. I was so thankful to have her there with me to help me greet the other bridesmaids as they arrived one by one.

For breakfast, we had a spread of bagels, cream cheese, apples and PB.

In one of our planning meetings, my photographer had advised us not to eat too much fruit beforehand since it could have an acidic effect on the stomach and lead to an unpleasant experience ;-) ....if you know what I mean.

For the morning of I had decided to have all the stylists and makeup artists arrive at my condo so the bridesmaids and myself could all get ready prior to heading to the church.  We all decided we would change into our dresses at the church later on.

First to arrive at my condo was my hair stylist.  I was so thankful for such a dedicated stylist who would get up at 5am to make my hair beautiful!  I had done one trial run for my bachelorette party and decided, after looking at the bachelorette photos, to keep my hair a bit simpler.
My hair previously had included a braid.  I decided against the braid since the wedding was a bit more formal.
Next to arrive was my sister, the maid of honor.  She came with a gift for me - a "Bridal Survival Kit"
The box she decorated included pictures of Bryan and I during our engagement session.  She filled the box with pins, chap stick, deodorant, a TIDE pen, liquor, gum, and a few other treats. I was so thankful!  In all the hustle and bustle of planning, I had forgotten to pack a little bag of emergency things for the church so it was a perfect gift!

After my hair was done, my good friend Shila came over to do my make-up. She used to sell Mary-Kay and is extremely talented with make-up.  Knowing she had done her own make-up for her own wedding, I was more than confident that she would do a fantastic job.  She was so sweet and encouraging the entire time. I have been friends with Shila for over 6 years and it was so sweet to spend this important time in my life with her.  In the below picture of the reception later on that day.  Shila is the one standing third from the right in the maroon and brown dress.

She did a FABULOUS job with my make-up. I was so pleased how natural it looked in all different lightings - inside and outside that day.

A few make-up items I purchased prior to the wedding:
  • Make-up FOREVER foundation- Sephora
  • Anastasia Eyebrow Pencil and Highlighter Kit- Sephora
  • Victoria Secret Shimmer Blush- VS
  • Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner Brush set- Target
  • Stilla Liquid Eyeliner pen- Sephora
  • Lash Extensions (applied the day before at Pretty Suite Studio, Palm Beach)
  • Airbrush Mineral Wear Foundation Powder- Target
  • Mary-Kay Lip Gloss Samples (I played around with different colors prior to the big day and ended up using a neutral/peach color)

After all of our make-up/hair was complete, the bridesmaids and I made our way to the bridal suite at the chapel to finish getting ready (with the photographer present).

Once at the church, I saw my dress hanging in the bridal suite for the first time in a while.  The night before, one of my bridesmaids had placed it in the bridal suite. It was beautiful!  I couldn't believe the day was finally here, the day I could wear it and feel like a princess!

Being a corset dress- my bridesmaids were wonderful helping me get it tied.  It was a process that all of them could help in.

I love my mom's reaction in the below picture. Once the dress was on, reality started to sink in, this was it!  This was the day my life would change forever for the better!  I couldn't wait!

Soon, my mother-in-law (to-be) arrived with a note from Bryan, my soon-to-be groom. As I read the heart-felt pages he had written, I began to tear-up. In fact when I looked up, there was not a single dry eye in the room.

All the girls in the room (mostly bridesmaids) were so special in my life and so supportive of Bryan and I's relationship.  They were caught up in the emotions I was feeling at that very moment too. I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to share all these special moments with. Our eyes were filled with tears of joy.

Next I slipped on my special wedding shoes.
My shoes were extremely simple. They were satin-cloth flats that I had found at the mall one day. I was a happy girl wearing such comfortable shoes all day long!

As for my veil, my mom and I had purchased it, along with my necklace and earrings, at a cute little boutique in Winter Park a few weeks prior.  It was exactly what I had been looking for and the shopping experience was such a wonderful memory I will cherish forever. My mom and I had made a day out of shopping- getting brunch at Briar Patch and browsing the shops downtown.

I was ready!  My dad came in for a final moment right before I headed out to the courtyard.
My daddy and I

This was one of my final moment as a single lady! I was on my way out the door for the "first look" with the man of my dream- my handsome groom who was waiting for me!  My heart began to pound!

Wedding Recap: The Rehearsal Dinner

Oh beautiful February!

MY RUN: My Workout today was a quick run after work. I decided to do 4 treadmill miles since it was gloomy outside.  I watched Friday Night Lights on Netflix during the run. Love that show

Anyways, I hope you are having a wonderful start to the week so far. February gets me in the spirit of Romance. I decided to continue recapping one of the most romantic days of my life- My Wedding Adventure.  Right where I left off..  "The Rehearsal Dinner"

Sitting down to write my wedding recap is therapeutic in a way.  I love reliving the most amazing day of my life.  It brings back so much joy, I can feel all the emotions as if it were yesterday- excitement, relentless, happiness, joy, energy, desire, love, anxiousness, peace, ...all the emotions surrounding the day my best friend became my husband. What a great Day!

We decided to have the rehearsal dinner at a Cuban restaurant we discovered a few months prior.  It was a few miles from the church we were practicing at and seemed to fit the bill, so to speak.

Bryan and I both decided to give out our bridal party gifts at the dinner.  Mine were very DIY. I wanted them to be personal to each bridesmaid.
I gave them each a framed picture of us with a poem about standing by my side, a martini glass with their initials in rhinestones, and a Vera Bradley wallet.
The Bridesmaids (minus one) at the rehearsal

After dinner Bryan and I wanted to do something out of the box so we took everyone on a 1block walk to Sloan's Ice cream Parlor.  It was meaningful because it was where Bryan and I first shared our first Brownie Ice cream sundae the night we met.
At Sloan's Ice Cream Parlor
I was so incredibly excited and happy that night. I couldn't believe that all the planning had finally ended and the big day was less than 12 hours away!
With the groom
It was so nice to see all of our friends and family together at the dinner and dessert.  But afterwards, Bryan and I snuck away with two of our friends to have a final kiss before the big day.
The next time I would see him would be in my wedding dress!!!!!!  EEEEKKKKK! I was Sooo Sooo Excited!

I went back to my condo that night with my friend and bridesmaid Sarah.  I couldn't imagine having slept alone that night- she was so supportive and got everything ready for the girls to come over at 5am the next morning while she sent me off to bed for my beauty sleep.  I am so lucky to have such amazing friends!

The Day Before - Wedding Recap

As Valentines day is approaching I thought it would be a nice tribute to recap my wedding 16months ago.  We got married at the cutest little chapel in West Palm Beach, along the waterway.  Everything about my special day was a fairytale and I love reliving each emotion as I write it all down- for the first time. Here it goes....starting with
"The Day Before the Wedding"

Since my parents live in Orlando area and my mom hadn't had much of a chance to help me plan a lot of the wedding, she decided to come down a few days before the wedding to spend some time with me and get the last minute details together.

While I say she didn't have much time to plan with me, she definitely helped out a lot from a far- she even took on the task of purchasing and putting together the centerpieces which was such a blessing!  She made my vision of "rustic fall" come to life in every sense and I am beyond grateful for that!
One of the things I had been considering for the wedding was whether or not I would get a spray tan.  I went back and forth on the issue and the final determining factor was of all things "RUNNING."  I spoke to the salon and they said I could not by any means go for a run the day before my wedding with my mom because it would cause the tan to streak.  Thankful for the salon's honesty, I quickly declined and was so happy I did.

The morning before, my mom and I got up relatively early and went for a 30min jog around my neighborhood, near the golf courses.

Although I had run the route beside the golf courses near where I live dozens of times, this run was particularly special to me.  The entire time, my mom and I caught up on things, life, and discussed the exciting plans for the upcoming weekend wedding events. It was so nice to just take a moment to "be" and enjoy.  The sun was shining and I felt so much more at peace having started everything off with a run.

After the run, we ate a quick breakfast of pastries and coffee at Panera

Then I headed off to get a mani/pedi with my bridesmaids while my mom did some last minute craft store runs. I had booked two appointments- a manicure/pedicure and an appointment to get false lashes.  It was so nice to finally relax and pamper myself after all the stress of planning.

After my fashion pampering, I headed back to our condo where I met up with a few other bridesmaids and my friend Rophe to assemble the bouquets.  I had always wanted calla lilies and hydrangeas for my bouquets/dĂ©cor and stumbled across a great deal on Costco.com.

The final product on my wedding day....
These are shots from the first look and they show the bouquet pretty well. It was right in line with my "Rustic Fall" theme :-)
My friend Rophe luckily had some wedding bouquet-making experience and she generously helped my mom and bridesmaids out together all the flowers while I packed for the Honeymoon (yes, VERY last minute, I know) The flower bouquets turned out absolutely gorgeous in the end!

While I was packing, Bryan came over to keep me company and do some packing of his own (he had moved all his stuff over to my apartment- soon to be "our apartment").  I was so excited- thinking that just 48hrs from that very moment we would be on a plane traveling to a gorgeous country we both had never been as husband and wife.

The only thing that made the whole packing experience EVEN better!?!
Rophe had brought us Starbucks to enjoy while we packed! :-)
